Authenticated broker crash via Shovel atom exhaustion

Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026

Resource exhaustion in RabbitMQ Server 4.2.0 through 4.2.8 and 4.3.0 through 4.3.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash a broker node. The Shovel parameter parser interns attacker-controlled protocol values and destination-property keys as permanent Erlang atoms before applying bounds or an allowlist. Access requires management and policymaker tags, vhost permission to set Shovel parameters, and both Shovel plugins; stored parameters can reapply node-wide atom pressure after restart.
