Authenticated command execution via abbreviated Git options
Published Aug 1, 2026 · Updated Aug 1, 2026
Command injection in GitPython before 3.1.51 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through Git operation options. Git.check_unsafe_options canonicalizes underscores to hyphens but performs exact blocklist matching, while Git expands unique long-option prefixes such as upload_p to upload-pack. Exploitation requires an embedding application to forward attacker-controlled keyword names into clone, fetch, pull, or push operations; applications using only fixed or validated keyword names do not expose the flaw.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
