Authentication bypass via unnormalized RewriteTarget paths
Published Aug 1, 2026 · Updated Aug 1, 2026
Path traversal in Traefik Proxy 3.7.0 through 3.7.7 allows remote attackers to bypass route-level authentication via crafted request paths. The Kubernetes Ingress NGINX RewriteTarget middleware forwards a capture-derived path without checking whether dot-segment normalization changes it. Exploitation requires a permissive rewrite regex, a protected path on the same normalizing backend, and router-level access controls.
