Client crash via NULL smartcard lookup name
Published Aug 1, 2026 · Updated Aug 1, 2026
Null pointer dereference in FreeRDP before 3.29.0 allows remote attackers to terminate the client through smartcard cache requests. The read- and write-cache decoders accept a zero NDR pointer as a valid LookupName, then card_id_and_name_a() passes it to strlen(). Reachability requires smartcard redirection and emulation plus a peer-controlled cache request; demonstrated impact is termination of the client and its active RDP session.
