Admin-only node crash via vhost metadata atomization

Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026

Resource exhaustion in RabbitMQ Server allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to crash the broker node. The add_vhost/2 path passes imported virtual-host metadata to rabbit_data_coercion:atomize_keys/1, whose binary_to_atom conversion interns every untrusted map key. A crafted definitions import containing about one million unique keys can exhaust the Erlang atom table and interrupt service for the entire node.
