Node crash via unbounded atom creation
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Resource exhaustion in affected RabbitMQ Server releases allows remote authenticated users to crash a node via a crafted upstream URI. mechanisms/1 splits the attacker-controlled auth_mechanism value on colons and passes every token to list_to_atom/1, permanently consuming Erlang VM atoms. Exploitation requires Shovel or Federation and the policymaker tag; one to three roughly 9 MB requests can terminate the node and interrupt all tenants.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
