Unauthenticated command execution via eval expression injection
Published Aug 4, 2026 · Updated Aug 4, 2026
Code injection in Perspective 5.0.0's PolarsVirtualServer backend allows remote attackers to execute operating system commands. The parse_expression function rewrites column-name tokens but sends the remaining client-controlled expression to Python eval with only built-ins removed, permitting object traversal to subprocess.Popen. A network client able to send TableValidateExprReq or TableMakeViewReq protobuf messages can run commands with the Perspective host process's privileges; the bundled reference adapters perform no authentication.
