Root file access via hard-coded FTP credentials
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Use of hard-coded credentials in Digital Watchdog VMAX recorders allows adjacent attackers to access files as root through reachable FTP. The embedded FTP service accepts a fixed credential set and grants the authenticated account root-level filesystem access. The attacker must reach the recorder's FTP service; successful access permits reading, writing, or deleting files with root privileges.
