Arbitrary file read via traversing assay filename
Published Jul 30, 2026 · Updated Jul 30, 2026
Path traversal in Apache Tika 1.8 through 3.3.1 and 4.0.0-alpha-1 allows local users to read files through ISA-Tab parsing. ISArchiveParser's parseAssay joins each untrusted Study Assay File Name value to the dataset directory without canonicalizing and enforcing containment. Attackers must place an ISA-Tab dataset where an application later parses it; readable files outside that directory are emitted into extracted text.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
