Root command execution via updateNetIf netmask injection
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Code injection in SonicWall Email Security 10.0.35.8405 and earlier allows local users with restricted CLI access to execute commands as root. The updateNetIf function passes an insufficiently validated netmask string to a system call, enabling shell command injection. Restricted CLI access is required; successful exploitation elevates low-privileged code execution to unrestricted root execution.
