Broker crash via OAuth2 scope atom exhaustion
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Resource exhaustion in RabbitMQ Server allows remote authenticated users to crash the broker through crafted OAuth2 JWT scope tags. The extract_scopes/1 function passes each rabbitmq.tag scope value to rabbit_data_coercion:to_atom(), permanently adding a new Erlang atom for every novel tag. The OAuth2 backend must be enabled, and a trusted identity provider must issue signed tokens containing attacker-influenced scopes; repeated logins can exhaust the VM atom table and abort the broker.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
