Authentication-counter erasure via monitoring-tagged DELETE access
Published Sep 23, 2026 · Updated Sep 23, 2026
Missing authorization in RabbitMQ 4.1.0 through 4.1.12 and 4.2.0 through 4.2.6 allows remote authenticated users to reset authentication counters. The rabbit_mgmt_wm_auth_attempts is_authorized/2 handler applies is_authorized_monitor to every method, so DELETE invokes rabbit_core_metrics:reset_auth_attempt_metrics() without an administrator check. The management plugin and a monitoring-tagged account are required; exploitation clears only per-node counters, not authentication logs.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 4.1.0, < 4.1.13

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
