Application crash via asynchronous TIFF lifetime error
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Use-after-scope in OpenImageIO before 3.1.16.0 allows remote attackers to crash applications that process a crafted TIFF. TIFFInput::read_native_scanlines() can return before queued strip-decompression tasks finish, destroying captured status and scratch storage that workers still use. Exploitation requires TIFF multithreading, pixel-data processing rather than metadata-only opening, and user interaction that causes the file to be processed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
