Process crash via GIF palette integer overflow
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in affected OpenImageIO releases allows local users to crash image transcoders with a truncated TGA file. During GIF output close, GifSplitPalette multiplies the pixel count by the palette partition width in signed 32-bit arithmetic, corrupting subPixelsA and indexing beyond the image buffer. The path requires an application or user to convert the attacker-controlled TGA to GIF; metadata inspection alone does not trigger the crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
