Credential brute-forcing via unrestricted UnixAuth attempts
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Improper authentication-attempt restriction in Apache Ranger 2.8.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to brute-force UnixAuth credentials. The UnixAuth login path accepts repeated password guesses without tracking failed attempts or delaying subsequent authentication requests. Exposure requires the optional UNIX authentication method, which Apache does not recommend for production; the flaw permits sustained guessing against configured accounts.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
