Authenticated file overwrite via unchecked rename destination
Published Jul 29, 2026 · Updated Jul 29, 2026
Improper input validation in JCE Editor before 2.9.99.10 allows remote authenticated users to create hidden files or overwrite existing files. The filesystem rename functions accept otherwise invalid destination names and replace an existing destination instead of rejecting the operation. Reachability requires access to a file-related JCE plugin and rename permission; impact is limited to files in the browsed folder.
