Code execution via crafted document parsing
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Office before August 2026 security updates allows attackers to execute code locally via a crafted file. Microsoft describes the flaw only as a heap overflow in the Office graphics component and has not disclosed the parser, file field, or copy operation that overruns heap memory. Reachability requires a user to open a specially crafted Office document, and CrowdStrike reports that Preview Pane is not an attack vector for this CVE, so code runs in the current user's context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
