Root file access via stale SRP success state

Published Aug 6, 2026 · Updated Aug 6, 2026

Improper authentication in Apple macOS allows remote attackers to access Screen Sharing without credentials over the network. The screensharingd SRP frame-length validator returns a stale success status, marking the connection authenticated before credentials are proven. Screen Sharing or Remote Management must be enabled and reachable; bypassed sessions can invoke privileged file-copy helpers to read and write files as root.
