Viewer privilege escalation via node-tool authorization gap
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Incorrect authorization in n8n before 2.29.8 and in 2.30.0 allows remote authenticated users to run nodes with project credentials. The AI Agents node-execution tool checks only the agent:execute scope and omits checks for permission to execute nodes or access credentials. Exploitation requires a Project Viewer to chat with a shared-project agent that has node tools enabled; command-capable nodes extend the impact to host command execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
