Authenticated RCE via ZIP path traversal
Published Aug 20, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026
Path traversal in ZIP extraction in ATutor 2.2.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via crafted archive filenames. The import and extraction logic writes ZIP members outside the intended directory, letting an instructor place a server-executable .phtml file in the web root instead of course storage. Exploitation requires instructor privileges and succeeds only where that uploaded .phtml file is reachable and executed by the web server, yielding code execution as the web server process.
