Privilege escalation via API key forgery

Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Privilege escalation in Grav API Plugin before 1.0.8 allows remote authenticated users to forge API keys for other accounts. In api.php, the admin task handler accepts apiKeyGenerate and apiKeyRevoke requests with only admin.login, takes the target username from the admin route, and creates or revokes keys without enforcing account ownership, admin.users, or super-admin targeting rules. Any panel account can mint a persistent key that inherits the target account's API scopes, so impact ranges from unauthorized API access to full administrative write access when a more privileged API-enabled account is targeted.
