CVE-2026-64705

System crash or kernel-memory write via HFS overflow

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Buffer overflow in the HFS component of Apple macOS before 14.8.7 or 15.7.7 allows local users to crash the system or write kernel memory. HFS copies attacker-influenced data into a fixed-size buffer without adequate bounds checking; Apple has not disclosed the affected function or input path. A locally running app is required, and successful exploitation is bounded to a system crash or kernel-memory modification; arbitrary kernel code execution has not been reported.
