CVE-2026-64653Network attack vector

Unintended API access via unescaped URL components

Published Aug 6, 2026 · Updated Aug 6, 2026

Path traversal in GitHub CLI before 2.97.0 allows remote attackers to redirect user-initiated REST requests to unintended API resources. Hand-built request URLs interpolate attacker-controlled repository or resource names as path segments without percent encoding, so URL metacharacters can escape the intended segment. Exploitation requires a user to run an affected command against attacker-controlled input; the CLI can then read or act on a resource other than the intended target.
