Local kernel compromise via stale NFIT descriptor
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel ACPI NFIT subsystem allows local users to compromise the kernel through an ACPI machine check. Failed initialization or device removal frees an acpi_desc without unlinking it from acpi_descs, so nfit_handle_mce dereferences the stale entry. Reachability requires NFIT hardware, a stale descriptor, and an uncorrectable machine check; the result is kernel-memory access, code execution, deadlock, oops, or panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
