Local system crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux Kernel ALSA es1938 driver allows local users to crash the system during mixer initialization. The snd_es1938_mixer function dereferences the result of snd_ctl_new1 without first checking whether allocation returned NULL. Triggering requires the ESS Solo-1 device path and a memory-allocation failure during mixer setup; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
