Kernel memory corruption via unchecked iSight sample count
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Buffer overflow in the Linux Kernel ALSA FireWire iSight driver allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory. The isight_packet() handler accepts sample_count values up to the packet's claimed ISO length, then isight_samples() copies that many frames beyond the fixed payload and PCM DMA buffer. Reaching the flaw requires a malicious or faulty Apple iSight device on the FireWire bus during audio capture; the out-of-bounds read and write can expose or corrupt kernel memory and destabilize the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
