Kernel crash via unchecked mixer control pointer
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux Kernel ALSA ice1712 driver causes a kernel crash when mixer control allocation fails. The driver dereferences unchecked pointers returned by snd_ctl_new1() in ice1712.c, ice1724.c, and aureon.c instead of handling allocation failure. Reachability requires the affected driver and a failed allocation during mixer control creation; the resulting kernel fault interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
