CVE-2026-64449

Local privilege escalation via oversized VME slave window

Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux Kernel vme_user module allows local users with VME device access to read or corrupt kernel memory. The buffer_to_user() and buffer_from_user() helpers copy a user-selected count at the file offset while checking only the VME window size, so windows over the 128 KiB kern_buf overrun its allocation. The device node defaults to root-only mode, but an account granted access can trigger kernel disclosure, memory corruption, privilege escalation, or a panic without user interaction.
