CVE-2026-64446

Local kernel memory corruption via oversized WPA IE

Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026

Heap buffer overflow in the Linux Kernel rtl8723bs driver allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted WPA or WPA2 IE. rtw_cfg80211_set_wpa_ie() copies the IE length plus two bytes into the 256-byte supplicant_ie array, so a length of 255 writes 257 bytes and passes a truncating length check. Reachability requires local access to submit an nl80211 connect request on a system using the rtl8723bs driver; the documented overwrite is one byte into last_mic_err_time.
