Local privilege escalation via shrinker_info teardown race
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Race condition in mm/shrinker.c in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through cgroup operations. Error unwinding frees published shrinker_info arrays after dropping shrinker_mutex while expand_one_shrinker_info() can still copy and queue the same storage for RCU freeing. A low-privileged user needs a delegated cgroup v2 subtree to race cgroup creation with memcg-aware shrinker allocation, producing a use-after-free or double-free that enables privilege escalation or a kernel panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
