Kernel memory corruption via uninitialized chainstack free
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Uninitialized-pointer access in Linux Kernel ebtables allows local users to corrupt kernel memory during table replacement. A sparse cpu_possible_mask leaves skipped newinfo->chainstack slots uninitialized, and failure of a later vmalloc_node() makes cleanup pass such a slot to vfree(). The path requires CAP_NET_ADMIN in the socket network namespace, a boot-fixed sparse possible-CPU mask, and an uncommon allocation failure; consequences include kernel memory disclosure or modification and a crash or panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
