CVE-2026-64382Network attack vector

Kernel memory corruption via stale SMB response double-free

Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026

Double-free in the Linux Kernel SMB client allows remote attackers to corrupt kernel memory through crafted SMB CREATE error responses. During SMB2_open() replay, a response-bearing failure frees its buffer, but a later SMB2_open_init() failure preserves the stale buffer type and cleanup frees the allocation again. A victim must mount or access the attacking SMB share; repeated triggering can disclose or overwrite kernel memory, hijack control flow, or panic the kernel.
