Local denial of service via XFS resource leaks
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Resource leak in the XFS metadir quota-inode path in Linux Kernel 6.13 through 7.1.1 allows local users to hang mount setup. xfs_dqinode_metadir_create() returns directly when xfs_metadir_create() fails, retaining update and transaction state; a later commit failure also leaves a caller-owned inode reference unreleased. Reachability requires XFS metadir quota-inode creation to hit either failure path, and repeated leaks can exhaust resources and leave the system unresponsive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
