System crash via stale parport registration
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel uss720 USB parallel-port driver allows local users to crash the system via a failing adapter probe. In uss720_probe(), a failed get_1284_register() call frees driver-private memory without unregistering the previously registered parport, leaving pp->private_data dangling. Triggering the failure requires local access to probe a USB parallel-port adapter; later parport use can dereference freed memory and crash the system.
