Kernel panic via omitted UDF extent offset
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel UDF filesystem allows local users to panic the kernel through a crafted filesystem. udf_free_blocks() omits the extent offset from its partition-length check, allowing load_block_bitmap() to index beyond s_block_bitmap[]. Exploitation requires mounting the crafted UDF image and truncating a writable file; unprivileged access depends on desktop UDisks and polkit policy.
