Kernel memory disclosure and crash via oversized pp_count
Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux Kernel AIX partition parser allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system via a crafted image. aix_partition() trusts the on-disk pp_count and scans beyond the fixed 1,016-entry ppe array, reading up to roughly 2 MiB past its allocation. A basic local desktop user can trigger scanning through an unprivileged UDisks loop setup; the flaw provides no out-of-bounds write primitive.
