CVE-2026-64257Network attack vector

Memory disclosure and panic via overlapping SMB2 areas

Published Jul 25, 2026 · Updated Jul 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel SMB client allows remote attackers to disclose kernel memory or crash a client with a crafted SMB2 response. In __smb2_calc_size(), overlap handling clears data_length, causing an invalid response to appear data-free and pass a length exception before an oversized ASN.1 length reads beyond the receive object. Exploitation requires negotiation with a malicious or compromised SMB server; the path is reached before SMB authentication and can leak adjacent kernel memory or trigger a kernel panic.
