Local privilege escalation via report_work use-after-free
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel batman-adv allows local users to gain kernel privileges by racing mesh-interface teardown. batadv_bla_purge_backbone_gw() frees a stale backbone gateway without canceling or waiting for its report_work, so the worker dereferences freed kernel objects. Low-privilege access through a user namespace is sufficient to control the race, enabling kernel-memory disclosure, modification, control-flow hijacking, or a panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
