Host crash via real-mode preemption counter access
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Denial of service in the powerpc time code in Linux Kernel allows local users to trigger a kernel panic during a real-mode machine check. The redundant preempt_disable() call in arch_irq_work_raise() accesses preempt_count from a real-mode MCE handler, where that access can fault. An affected powerpc system and a machine-check exception are required, and the reported consequence is a host crash without data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
