CVE-2026-64193Network attack vector

Remote command execution via unescaped eval backticks

Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026

Eval injection in NLnet Labs Net::DNS 1.55 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute commands through a crafted DNS response. Net::DNS::RR::OPT::EXTENDED_ERROR::_decompose tokenizes EDNS EXTENDED-ERROR EXTRA-TEXT bytes and passes them to Perl eval without escaping backticks. Execution requires consuming code to request the EXTENDED-ERROR option in array context; successful exploitation runs commands with that process's privileges.
