Local service interruption via erroneous sysfs directory removal
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Denial of service in Linux Kernel allows local users to disrupt sysfs state after a named group update fails during file creation. internal_create_group() removes the pre-existing group directory returned by kernfs_find_and_get() when create_files() fails, although the update path did not create that directory. Reachability requires low-privileged local access and a file-creation failure such as memory exhaustion; the erroneous removal can interrupt services that depend on the sysfs group.
