Certificate-chain acceptance via permitted MD5 signatures
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Improper certificate validation in wolfSSL 3.9.10 through 5.9.1 allows remote authenticated users to have MD5-signed chains accepted. HashForSignature() treated CTC_MD5wRSA during verification as a permitted signature hash instead of returning HASH_TYPE_E. Exploitation requires a certificate-validation path and a build that does not otherwise disable MD5; the bounded effect is acceptance of a chain using a broken digest.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
