CVE-2026-64098

Kernel memory corruption via unlocked fence updates

Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026

Improper locking in Linux Kernel allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through virtio-gpu cursor and plane-update ioctls. virtio_gpu_cursor_plane_update() and virtio_gpu_resource_flush() ignore a failed reservation-lock acquisition, after which dma_resv_add_fence() mutates the framebuffer fence list without the required lock. DRM master access on a virtio-gpu device is required; corruption can expose or alter kernel memory and cause crashes, hangs, or panics.
