Kernel memory corruption via unchecked record count
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux Kernel ADM1266 hwmon driver allows a malformed PMBus response to corrupt kernel memory during blackbox reads. adm1266_nvmem_read_blackbox() trusts byte 3 of BLACKBOX_INFO as record_count and iterates beyond the 32-record data->dev_mem allocation. Reachability requires an ADM1266 device and a blackbox read; firmware faults, bus corruption, or a nonresponsive slave can supply the oversized count, with no reported code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
