Kernel compromise via failed netfs read cancellation
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Resource-lifetime error in Linux Kernel 6.14 through 6.18.33 and 6.19 through 7.0.10 allows remote attackers to compromise the kernel. The DIO and single-read dispatch paths mishandle a subrequest when preparation fails, dropping or retaining references instead of sending failed termination through the collector. Reachability requires a client to read from an attacker-controlled CIFS/SMB, 9p, AFS, or Ceph server with O_DIRECT across multiple subrequests; kernel compromise can expose or alter data and interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
