CVE-2026-64038

Freed-pointer dereference via lm90 teardown race

Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel lm90 hardware-monitor driver from 6.0 allows attackers to dereference freed memory during device teardown. In lm90_probe(), reverse-order cleanup frees data->hwmon_dev before alert_work and report_work are canceled, allowing lm90_update_alarms() to use the stale pointer. The race requires supported sensor hardware plus module unbind or probe failure while work is pending; no privilege escalation or code execution is reported.
