Kernel memory corruption via unsynchronized UMP teardown
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel ALSA sequencer allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via concurrent UMP output teardown. seq_ump_process_event() borrows client->out_rfile.output while seq_ump_client_close() can release the rawmidi file and free its runtime before the write path pins it. Reachability requires local access and applicable ALSA UMP hardware; KASAN demonstrated an invalid kernel-memory read, while broader exploitation has not been established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
