Kernel panic via unchecked orphan entry count
Published Jul 19, 2026 · Updated Jul 19, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in F2FS orphan recovery in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to panic the kernel via a crafted image. f2fs_recover_orphan_inodes() trusts entry_count and reads beyond the orphan block's ino[] array, treating footer or following data as inode numbers. Triggering requires mounting attacker-controlled F2FS media or an automated privileged mount path; the resulting failure crashes or hangs the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
