Unauthenticated server crash via nested JSON
Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in SurrealDB before 3.1.0 allows remote attackers to crash the database server through WebSocket /rpc payloads. The parse_value and parse_json paths accept nested braces, brackets, and parentheses without applying the configured recursion-depth limit. No credentials or query privileges are required; one deeply nested JSON message can exhaust server memory and terminate the process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
