CVE-2026-63728Public exploit

Secret exfiltration via non-hermetic report template functions

Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026

Template injection in Gitleaks before 8.30.1 allows local users to exfiltrate host and scan secrets via crafted report templates. NewTemplateReporter registers Sprig's full TxtFuncMap, letting env and expandenv read process variables and getHostByName encode their values into DNS lookups. Exploitation requires control over the report template supplied to a Gitleaks scan and discloses environment variables and secrets found during that scan.
